Katie Monnington

MCSP HPCP
Specialist Hip Physiotherapist
Katie qualified as a physiotherapist from the University of Birmingham in 1999. She has gained extensive experience in the NHS, private settings and with the All England Netball Association.
For the last 18 years she has worked at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, a specialist orthopaedic centre in London, gaining a wide range of experience in musculoskeletal conditions. Her current role is as an Extended Scope Physiotherapist and clinical lead for the hip service, developing the service and facilitating the learning of others within the team. She is part of the multi-disciplinary teams for metal on metal joint replacements, complex hips and for young adult hips, to determine the best care and management for these patient groups.
Katie was a treating therapist on the FASHIoN trial, a multicentre randomised controlled trial comparing the clinical and cost effectiveness of arthroscopy surgery versus best conservative care for patients with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome. She is an honorary clinical teaching fellow at University College London teaching on a Masters programme in rehabilitation. In 2018 she was awarded a travel fellowship which took her to Melbourne, Australia to further her knowledge and understanding of hip preservation and rehabilitation. This was an exciting opportunity and has built relationships for future collaborative research and service developments. This has facilitated the establishment of a gluteal tendinopathy clinic which Katie delivers to help manage patients with this condition.
Katie’s clinical interest is in adult hip pathology and dysfunction. She has experience in rehabilitating patients conservatively (without surgery) and post-surgery. Her skill set includes education to patients regarding their condition, treatment options and goal setting, rehabilitation therapy, manual therapy, clinical pilates and motor control.
Katie is keen to further her learning and understanding of hip pathology and keep current with treatment and management principles. She annually attends both national and international specialist hip conferences to further develop her knowledge base and to develop links with specialist hip consultants and clinicians.
Please contact us if you would like an appointment with Katie or for any further information.  Please note Katie’s fees are not usually covered by Health Insurers.
All our Physios are Chartered and State Registered each with over 10+ years of experience in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and rehabilitation both in the NHS and Private sector.
